10 Minute Trainer: Day 25 (Cardio)

Yes, I did still manage to get my workout in on Thanksgiving Day, as well as my forms. I also got to practice a drill for wing chun that Sifu told me will help out with my punches. In class he noticed I was tensing up in the shoulders, so he told me to do the following drill:

You start off by doing a single punch, followed by a one-two punch, then three in a row, then four, and so on up until you do a string of ten chain punches. Then you do another set of ten, then nine, then eight, and continue back on down to finish with a single punch. There are two things going on with this drill: not only are you learning to relax after each punch, but you are also learning to breathe normally. Most people would have a tendency to puff up with one large inhale and then release as they do the punches. In wing chun you practice to just keep breathing normally.

Still got to do my trainer for today, so expect another blog later on.

About Steve Grogan

I am 40 years old, divorced, and a father of four kids. I am a practitioner of a self-defense system called wing chun kung fu. My other hobbies include writing, playing guitar, reading, watching movies, and listening to music. Recently I have gotten back into fitness, and this time I am DETERMINED to get the washboard abs...whether my metabolism will cooperate with me or not! The purpose of this blog is to write not only about my hobbies, but also about whatever crosses my mind, whether it is something I don't understand or something that aggravates me. So join me as I indulge my tendency to think too much about topics that don't usually cross anyone else's mind!
