P90X/Insanity Hybrid: Day 41 (Cardio Power and Resistance)

A lot of times during my workouts, I will be in so much agony that it feels like the exercise is taking forever to end. This prompts me to look up at the TV to see how much time is left, which causes pain in two ways: (1) the pain of seeing I have longer left than I thought, and (2) the pain in my neck from looking up. Today I recalled an old trick that helped eliminate BOTH of these. It has to do with something we are all learning to build while we work out and eat right: willpower.

It’s quite simple, really: if you are tempted to look at the screen to see how long you have, don’t do it!!! Just wait it out…maintain focus on your exercise and breathing…and patiently wait for Tony or Shaun or Debbie or Chalene to tell you it’s over. When I put this trick into practice, I noticed I did MUCH better with today’s workout than I ever have. Through the entire set, I had to stop only for about a minute and a half. (By that I mean rests I took on top of the ones Shaun already has built into the routine.)

About Steve Grogan

I am 40 years old, divorced, and a father of four kids. I am a practitioner of a self-defense system called wing chun kung fu. My other hobbies include writing, playing guitar, reading, watching movies, and listening to music. Recently I have gotten back into fitness, and this time I am DETERMINED to get the washboard abs...whether my metabolism will cooperate with me or not! The purpose of this blog is to write not only about my hobbies, but also about whatever crosses my mind, whether it is something I don't understand or something that aggravates me. So join me as I indulge my tendency to think too much about topics that don't usually cross anyone else's mind!
